Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 2,3-dicyano-5-(o-substituted phenyl) pyrazine shown by the formula I (R is lower alkyl, halogen, OH, lower alcokoxy, SH, lower alkylthio, NH2, lower alkylamino, NO2, COOH, lower alkoxycarbonyl, CF3, etc.; preferably Cl, Br, CH3, OCH3, SCH3, or dimethylamino).
EXAMPLE: 2,3-Dicyano-5-(o-methoxyphenyl) pyrazine.
USE: A herbicide available before and/or after germination, e.g., one for soil of water sprinkling rice paddy, treatment of a stalk and a leaf of weed in its growing period, and soil of plowed field.
PROCESS: A diaminomaleonitrile shown by the formula II is condensed with an O- substituted phenyl-glyoxal shown by the formula III in the presence of a solvent preferably water, methanol, ethanol, etc. to give the desired compound shown by the formula I.
