Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate defective display, by constituting and disposing electrodes so that the boundary of display electrode an background electrode may overlap with each other, in a positive type liquid crystal display element.
CONSTITUTION: A display electrode 3 and a background electrode 4 are constituted so that they may ovelap each other as shown in part P. As a result, if there is deviation in parallelism in the substrate surface with respect to the background electrode 4 when forming the display electrode 3, as far as the deviation is kept within the range of overlap, no gap is produced in the both patterns, so that colored part may not appear when electric field is applied between the both electrodes 3,4 and a counter electrode 5. In the case of positive display, the concentration of electric charge is lessened (part P), so that breakage of insulating film 6 may be prevented.
