PURPOSE:To enable a controller to diagnose its own hardware in online mode by sending a test signal on a transmission data line sent, corresponding to a diagnostic command, to a reception data line. CONSTITUTION:To transmit and receiver data via communication lines between CPU14 and communication circuits 131...134, signals inputted from communication circuits 131...134, and those on transmission data lines are received. Then, either one of signals is outputted selectively on a reception data line by a control signal from control circuit 30. Consequently, input from a communication circuit is inhibited during the hardware diagnosis of CPU14 and a test signal on a transmission data line sent corresponding to a diagnostic command can be sent back to a reception line, so that its own hardware can be diagnosed in online mode.
