Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to read recorded information of a card whichever direction the card is inserted in, by providing photo detectors in the surface side and the reverse face side for the card and operating OR between respective detection signals.
CONSTITUTION: A mark is recorded at the center of a card, and photo detectors 6a and 6b are provided in the surface side and the reverse face side for the card. If an output appears in detector 6b, the output is amplified by amplifier 8a and has the waveform shaped by gate 9a. If an output appears in detector 6b, the output is amplified similarly, and the output is led out to gate 9b. Meanwhile, the output appears only in gate 9a or 9b because the mark is recorded only in one side on the card, so that signals can be made into one by operating OR in gate 10.
