Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove the impurity gases adsorbed in the tube, by exhausting the air, lighting the lamp, and then after preheating the filaments applying a voltage between the both filaments to produce a glow discharge.
CONSTITUTION: After lighting the lamp, the air is sufficiently exhausted by an exhausting head H3, then the filaments are preheated by preheating heads H6 to emit thermal electrons so that the discharge space is ionized. Then, a discharge voltage is applied by a glow discharge head H7 to immediately initiate the glow discharge. This glow discharge releases the impurity gases adsorbed by a phosphor film and seal portions of stems, leads and filaments, particularly those impurity gases that are released during the decomposition and activation of the electron emitting material and adsorbed by said members, so that these impurity gases are then exhausted by an exhausting head H8.
