Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a constant delivery pressure for a head by using a pulsationless rotary pump and controlling the revolution rate of a driving motor for the rotary pump based on changes in ink viscosity. CONSTITUTION:In an ink jet plotter, ink is converted into ink droplets by a head 5 under a pump pressure, and the filght direction of the droplets is controlled electrostatically. In the plotter, a pulsationless rotary pump 3 is used as the pump for applying a pressure to the head 5, and a driving motor for the pump 3 is connected to a control unit 20 consiting of a viscometer 21 for detecting ink viscosity and a motor driving circuit 22 for controlling the revolution rate of the motor according to the detected values. The viscometer 21 is fitted on the side portion of an ink reservoir 2; viscosity is determined through detection of the dropping period of droplets 24 which drop from a down-facing nozzle 23.
