Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction of methionine with adenosine triphosphate is effected using treated cells of a specific microorganism as the source of enzyme to form S-adenyl-L- methionine with high efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: Treated cells of a microorganism that belongs to Penicilium, Aspergillus, Fusarium, etc., and has capability of synthesizing S-adenosyl-L-methionine from L-methionine and adenosine triphosphate in the form of treated cells, e.g.,the dried cells, are used to catalyze the reaction of methionine with adenosine triphosphate, when necessary, in the presence of a monovalent cation as potassium or ammonium ion and/or a divalent metal ion as magnesium or manganese ion.
