Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform connection loss measurement with a simple constitution and excellent in workability, by connecting the optical fibers after the measurement of the intensity of light delivered through the optical fiber and measuring the scattered light of optical fiber around the connections. CONSTITUTION:The light from the optical source 1 is fed to the optical fiber 2 and the intensity of propagation light is measured with the detector 3. After the connection, the intensity of the scattered light toward optical fiber cross section from the junction 6 of the optical fibers 2, 4 in connection is measured. The sensor 12 keeps the distance between the optical fibers 2, 4 and the connection 6 constant and the intensity of scattering light is measured while moving the sensor 12 along the axis of optical fiber. With this constitution, since the intensity of scattered light toward cross section of optical fiber around the connection is measured and the connection loss of optical fiber is measured, the accuracy is high and the unit for measurement can be constituted simply in small size.
