Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of hardening strain, to uniformize the hardening quality of a round bar or a tube, and to improve the productivity by automation, by heating, hardening through cooling water spray, and temperature the round bar or the tube while conveying the material automatically. CONSTITUTION:Circular steel material R, e.g., a round bar, a tube etc., to be treated is delivered one by one from a rest stand 4 by means of a conveyor 5 to a heating furnace 1 as it is placed on a tray 7. The steel material R, which is heated in the heating furnace 1 to a prescribed hardening temp., is drawn out of the heating furnace 1 to a quenching machine 2. In the quenching machine 2, the steel material R is quenched by the spray of cooling water, and is cooled in a water tank. Quenching with spray of water causes no change in hardening conditions, consequently uniform hardening quality is given. The steel material R having been hardened is placed on a tray 7 and is tempered while being conveyed by an intermittent conveying unit 9 through a tempering heating furnace 3, then it is fed to a tempering water tank 11 and is taken out by a conveyor 12. The tray is tranferred to a conveyor 5 for untreated steel material R and used repeatedly.
