Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a developer superior in developing performance and durability, and capable of forming a high density image, by dispersing into a carrier fluid, carbon black or an organic pigment coated with a silane coupling agent.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon black, such as furnace black or acetylene black, or an organic pigment, such as phthalocyanine blue or rhodamine lake is added to the solution of a silane coupling agent (an organic silicon compound, i.e. silicone, having a reactive group), such as vinyl trichlorosilane or vinyl triethoxysilane to wet the black or pigment. After this is properly dispersed, the solvent is evaporated and heat treated at about 100W120°C to form a toner coated with a silane coupling agent. Then, this toner is dispersed into a carrier fluid, such as n-hexane or ligroin, having high insulating property (resistivity 109Ωcm or more) and low dielectric constant (3 or less) to form a developer.
