Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent irregular discharge of arcing or short-circuiting, remove cutting chips and improve the effect of space-clearing by providing a magnetic field generator which forms beidirectional magnetic field around an electrid discharge machining area.
CONSTITUTION: An electrode and a workpiece are opposed to make a clearance A which is closed by electromagnet coils X, X' and Y, Y' placed to respectively form cross-directional magnetic fields and electromagnetic coils Z, Z' laid above and below it in the direction of an axis Z. A coil is excited in variously changed directions. The coil X excited forms a magnetic field in the direction 1, the coil Y excited in the direction 2, the coil X' excited forms it in the direction 3, the coil Y' excited forms it in the direction 4, the coil Z excited forms it in the direction 5 and the coil Z' excited forms it in the direction 6.
