Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible simultaneous roll changing in a narrow working space by laying rails for side shift trucks in the specific direction in the side shift type roll changing device using porter cars. CONSTITUTION:Rails 6, 7 for porter cars are laid in the direction perpendicular to the rolling line PL of the plural roll stands disposed with the work rolls 5 having the bearing box parts of a thickness HO. Rails 8, 9 for side shift trucks are laid by crossing the rails 6, 7 at (90-theta). As the above angle theta, the angle satisfying tan (SD+SN) HO, (SD, SN are parallel moving distances at the time of side shifting of rolls) is used. At the time of roll changing, it turns out that the new roll 1N positions at the point C and the old roll 1D at the point B, but the adjoining new roll 2N and abovementioned 1D deviate in the axial direction by more than HO and this avoids contacting of the bearing boxes with themselves and therefore it becomes possible to handle the rolls more closely during work.
