Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a spongy drug base suitable as the base of a sheet for applying to the oral mucosa, etc., by forming a mixture of a specific natural or semi-synthetic polymer, a synthetic polymer, and a plasticizer, to a spongy form. CONSTITUTION:A mixture consisting of (A) (pref. 30-80wt% of) a natural or semi-synthetic polymer having a viscosity of >=100 cp in the 5% aqueous solution and exhibits adhesivity when dissolved in or gelled with water, (B) (pref. 10- 30wt% of) a synthetic polymer having a molecular weight of >=10,000 which dissolves in or gels with water, and (C) (pref. 5-30wt% of) a water-soluble, non- volatile plasticizer, is formed to a spongy form. The combined use of the above components improves the adhesivity, flexibility, and strength of the base, elongates the effectivity of the drug component, and improves the feeling of the applied parts.
