Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The title compound of formula I. USE:Perfume compositions having a fragrance like wood and green leaves, capable of enhancing the naturality of compound perfume of bergamot, geranium, or rose, even in an amount of about 10ppm. PROCESS:Germacrene-D of formula II is irradiated with light in an organic solvent, e.g. petroleum ether or benzine, or heptane, in the presence of sulfur powder to give the compound of formula I. The light source is a high- or low-pressure mercury lamp, preferably irradiating from outside the system.
