Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the reproduction output of the low band by installing the 2nd magnetic head featuring more than double gap compared with the 1st magnetic head on the same track with the fixed space secured between these two magnetic heads and then adding the reproduction output of the 1st magnetic head with delay of a fixed time.
CONSTITUTION: The same recording locus is reproduced via 1st and 2nd magnetic head 8 and 10. The reproduction signal of head 8 is added to the reproduction signal of head 10 after delayed by time tO via delay element 9. This time tO is set for the period during which the same point of the tape reaches the center of gap 12 of head 10 from the center of gap 11. As a result, the higher output can be obtained over the entire frequency range than the reproduction via one unit of the head. And if the gap length of head 8 is set more than double the gap length of head 10, the dynamic range can be increased for the low band. Thus the reproduction output can be increased at the low frequency band with no fluctuation of the level nor increment of distortion.
