Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording substance which excels in the hardwearing properties and is capable of the high-density recording by forming the magnetic recording layer with the mixture of the magnetic powder with the radical (co)polymer stuck and the isocyanate compound.
CONSTITUTION: About 50W95pts.wt. of the magnetic powder (γ-Fe2O3 powder, Co-Ni-Fe alloy powder, erc.) and about 50W5pts.wt. of the radical (co)polymer (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate,etc.) are scattered into the water with addition of the catalyst (the material generating the acidic sulfite ion) to be polymerized about 1W8 hours. Thus the magnetic powder is obtained with the (co)polymer stuck. Then the mixture of the isocyanate compound such as 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate or the like and the above-mentioned magnetic powder in about 0.5W 30:99.5W70 is kneaded via the solvent to form the magnetic coating material. Such coating is applied on the substrate and then dried to obtain the magnetic recording layer.
