Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a water soluble, high performance desulfurizer in a high production yield by a method wherein lignin is heated for treatment, undergoes nitration to prepare a water soluble nitro compound of lignin.
CONSTITUTION: Lignin based material such as lignin sulfonic acid, thioalkali lignin is heated for treatment in the presence of acid and alkali or in a gas stream. Lignin is then reacted with 6 pt.wt. or more nitration agent such as a 10W60% nitric acid basing on 1 pt.wt. lignin. The reaction provides a water soluble nitor compound of eignin in high yield. The product, being water soluble, is used as desulfurizing agent, and particulary useful as cleaning solution for hydrogen sulfide to remove it.
