Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the captioned porous body of superior air permeability, corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and ductility at low coast by molding Al or Al alloy powder under no pressure or slight pressure to required shapes then sintering the same in a reducing atmosphere at or near its melting point.
CONSTITUTION: Al or Al alloy powder is molded to required shapes under no pressure or applying a slight pressure such as about 1000 kg/cm2 or higher. This molding in a state of being held filled in, e.g., graphite case, is sintered at about ±20°C of the melting point of Al or Al alloy in a reducing atmosphere. The sintering time is made about 1 to 20 minutes. Each Al powder or each Al alloy powder melts and difuffuses owing to sintering and this yields the porous body of high mechanical strength and elongation and corrosion resistance.
