Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate deviation of air-fuel ratio among cylinders that is possibly caused by secondary air, by supplying secondary air also to exhaust-gas drawing cylinders depending on the operational condition in an internal-combustion engine of the type comprising cylinders for supplying secondary air and cylinders for drawing exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: Secondary air passed through air cleaner 26 is supplied, by the use of pulsation of exhaust gas flow, through reed valve 24 and port 27 to a first exhaust manifold 20 connected to a second and a third cylinders 12, 13, and arrangement is such that secondary air can be supplied also to a second exhaust manifold 22 connected to a first and a fourth cylinders 11, 14, through valve 44, reed valve 42 and port 40. Further, the second exhaust manifold 22 is connected with a pipe for drawing out exhaust gas from port 34 and supplying the same to the intake manifold via EGR-valve 28. Here, said valve 44 is connected to battery 50 in series to a parallel circuit of switches 46 and 48 which are closed respectively when the vehicle speed is higher than, for instance, 100km/h and when the altitude is greater than, for instance, 1500m.
