Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the branching and coupling part of optical fibers accurately, readily and rapidly by fusion-bonding both optical fibers while bending at least one optical fibers out of the two oprical fibers opposing to each other. CONSTITUTION:Only one optical fiber 1A is bent to form a bent part 2a and the other optical fiber 1B is held taut, thereby these fibers are pressure-contacted. The length l of the contact and the deformation X of the optical fiber 1A are determined by the distance H and the radius of curvature R1. After the formation of the contact part 3, it is thermally fusion-bonded, whereby the specified photo branching and coupling part is formed. Decreasing the curvature of the bent part yields the contact part of a desired length to be obtained. Hence, the photo branching and coupling part of desired characteristics depending upon the length of the contact part may be formed accurately and readily.
