Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a longer life and a higher sensitivity by means of a sample dissociating cell made up of a glass-like carbon covered with a pyrolytic carbon. CONSTITUTION:A glass-like carbon is treated in the atmosphere filled with argon, nitrogen and a mixed gas containing 1-10% of hydrocarbon such as methane. When this operation is made in an atom converter for ordinary atomic absorption analyzers, a cell is mounted between the terminals of the converter and energized to heat. After the treatment, the cell substrate is covered with tens to hundreds of micron of pyrolytic graphite. The cell thus obtained is set on an atomizer for the non-frame atomic absorption method.
