Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the air conditioning capacity ratio of an entire air conditioner while retaining the heating capacity by providing a frequency converter in the air conditioner operating also as a heat pump type heater.
CONSTITUTION: A frequency converter capable of supplying a current having a higher frequency than the frequency of a current from a commerical power supply is provided at a motor 19 for driving a refrigerant compressor. This converter consists of a rectifier circuit 2, a smoothing capacitor 3, main switching elements 4W7 for an inverter, drive circuits 8W11, a control signal circuit 12, a power supply frequency detector circuit 13, commercial power supply versus inverter changeover switches 14, 15, a switch 16 for a four-way valve coil, an inverter starting switch 17, and a four-way valve coil 18. In a cooling operation, the motor 19 is driven directly by the commerical power supply 1, while in heating operation, the motor 19 is driven by a current having higher frequency than the frequency of the current from the commerical power supply. Accordingly, this air conditoner can improve the air conditioning capacity ratio.
