Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the heating filaments with good electron emission characteristi and long life by forming the coil-shaped heating filament with the W-ThO2 alloy on the surface of which a carbonized layer is formed and setting the electrical resistance to 0.4W1.0μΩ per cm2.cm.
CONSTITUTION: The coil-shaped heating filament 1 of cathode structure which is used in electron tubes such as magnetrons uses the W alloy containing ThO2, for example, by 0.5W4.0 weight percentage as a base material and a carbonized layer consisting of W2C which contributes to electron emission is formed on the surface. The electrical resistance of this coil-shaped heating filament 1 ranges to 0.4W 1.0μΩ per cm2.cm. Such a filament 1 can be obtained by adjusting the gas body to be used of the process of a WC layer by performing carbonization on the surface and the process of converting the surface carbonized layer from the WC layer into a W2C layer and their heating time and temperatures. This enables the heating filament with good electron emission characteristic and long life to be obtained.
