Abstract

PURPOSE: To correct the error of reproducing signals when an error is detected from a syndrome and inhibit error correction when no error is detected, by using an error correcting parity code as well as CRC check to perform the error check for every several samples.
CONSTITUTION: Interleave is performed after parity signals are added to information signals of plural samples reproduced from a VTR, and check signals are added to the signal sequence obtained by this interleave, and they are recorded. When recorded signals are reproduced, the signal error is discriminated on a basis of check signals, and reverse interleave is performed to restore the signal train, and a syndrome of information signals of plural samples including parity signals is obtained. Then, when an error is detected from the syndrome, the error correction of reproducing signals is performed; and when no error is detected, the error correction is inhibited.
