Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase an original read speed more by making use of a lights-out period for a signal read by putting out a light source while an original is moving in a sub-scan direction and by lighting the light source when it stops.
CONSTITUTION: When pulse motor 18 receives an original feed command signal from control circuit 20 to move original 15 by a fixed pitch in a sub-scan direction and then stops it, switch 25 for controlling a light-source lighting circuit lets light source 18 come on for a certain time from the point in time when original 15 stops by the command from circuit 20. As a result, light source 18 comes on for a time equivalent to a storage time needed for solid-state image sensor 11 and then goes off. During this period, original 15 advances by a fixed distances while a scan start command is inputted from sensor 11 to solid-state images sensor driver circuit 12, and in the stationary period of original 15, a stored photoelectric conversion signal is read out for a scan. Once original 15 stops, a lighting control signal changes from level "L" to level "H", letting light source 13 come on. In this way, the original stationary period is utilized to increase the speed of an original read.
