Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily detect the revolution speed of an electric motor or the like with high accuracy, by generating a voltage proportional to the time interval of light transmitted through the slits of a rotary member.
CONSTITUTION: Light from a light source 3 is detected by a sensor 4 through the slits of a rotary plate 2 which is rotated by an electric motor 1. The detection output of the sensor is shaped. A signal for holding the value of a counter 10 is produced by the rising of the shaped signal. The counter 10 is preset by the falling of the holding circuit. As a result, an input pulse from an oscillator 9 is counted by the counter 10 at every detection of the light by the sensor 4. The counted value is picked out through a D-A converter 12. Since the counted value is proportional to the rotational frequency of the motor 1, a voltage proportional to the rotational frequency can be produced if the output of a constant voltage circuit 15 and the output voltage of the D-A converter 12 are processed by an analogue division circuit 16.
