Abstract

PURPOSE: To inhibit the formation of an excess sludge by preventing bulking by pretreating waste water in a treating tank having fixed beds and oxygen dissolving means and then treating activated sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Fixed beds 2 made of nylon net is provided in a first treating tank 1. An oxygen dissolving means equipped with a nozzle 3A and taper tubes 3B, 3C is arranged between the fixed beds 2. When air from the nozzle 3A is passed through the waste water from a supply tube 6, air is finely divided and dissolved in the waste water. Further, mixing air-liquid is conducted in the taper tubes 3B, 3C to enhance dissolving efficiency. This oxygen-dissolved waste water is recycled to the fixed beds 2 where the waste water is contacted with microorganism to treat. Then, the waste water is fed to a second treating tank 7. When such treatment of the waste water is conducted while preventing bulking, a balance between the formation and consumption of sludge is kept and the formation of an excess sludge is inhibited.
