Abstract

PURPOSE:To adequately control the addition of organic carbon source to biological denitrification process, a part of waste water containing ammonia based nitrogen is added with organic carbon source and passed through column deposited with denitrifying microbe, and discharged water is measured for its ORP value. CONSTITUTION:Water 4 to the denitrification bath 3 is partially branched and added with organic carbon source 8 such as methanol. The methanol-added water is passed through the monitor column 6 that contains solid granules 5 such as denitrifying microbe-attached sand, anthsite, etc. The ORP meter measures the oxidationreduction potential the internal of the monitor column 6 or the discahrged water from the monitor column 6. The measured value is used to control the pumps 8 and 12 feeding the organic caron source such as methanol. Thus, the consumption of expensive methanol is adequately controlled by installing the monitor column 6 having good dynamic and response property.
