Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the hot coil of quality similar to that of the conventional hot coil at high yield without executing the grinding work, by applying the hot rolling to the continuously cast hot slab as it is after heating to specified temperatures at the heating furnace for a specified time.
CONSTITUTION: The continuously cast slab of SUS 304 for example possessing the surface defects of depth about 0.5W1.0mm from the slab surface, is heated without repairing its defects in the heating furnace to 1250°C or higher temperatures for three hours or longer. Then this heat treated continuously cast slab is hot rolled according to the conventional method for manufacturing the desired hot coil. As a result, the production cost is greatly saved as compared with the conventional method, and the product with the quality almost similar to that of the product according to the conventional method.
