Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately measure the displacement amount of cast billet surface and improve the quality of the cast billet without being affected by deflections, etc. of support rolls by directly measuring said displacement amount between the mutually adjoining support rolls of the continuous casting machine with the guide surface position thereof as a reference.
CONSTITUTION: The continuously cast billet 1 goes along the guide surfaces determined by the support rolls 2, 2' which are arrayed in the pulling direction and adjoin with each other. At this time, arrangement is so made that the output of the displacement gauge 10 following up the touch roll 15 pressure contacted by a spring 16 between the rolls and a detection assist bar 14 becomes zero. This is adjusted by sliding a guide cylinder 9 depending upon the way how the displacement gauge 10 is mounted or through driving of the cylinder 12 on the body 4 thereby setting its lower limit position. When bulging occurs owing to the static pressure of the molten metal in the cast billet 1, the displacement gauge 10 is swung from the zero point and the displacement amount of the cast billet may be accurately measured by the output signal thereof and this signal is also used for controlling of the pulling speed, etc. of the cast billet.
