Abstract
PURPOSE: To heighten the accuracy of detection, and to improve the quality of raw material for manufacturing fuel, by a method wherein a nitrate solution of nuclear fuel substance is denitrated by irradiating microwaves to the nitrate solution and a point of the completion of a denitration process is detected by measuring the quantity of light emitted from the matter to be heated.
CONSTITUTION: A nitrate solution 5 of nuclear fuel substance is supplied to a receiving pan-like vessel 7, and microwaves are irradiated from the opening portions of a vessel 1 in stainless steel through waveguides 4. Gas generated in case of evaporation and denitration is guided to an off-gas treatment system from an opening portion 6 of the vessel and treated. When a denitration reaction advances, the dried cake of a denitration product is obtained. When further applying microwaves, temperature rises, and the cake ignites at approximate 800°C. The matter to be heated emits light when the cake ignites, the quantity of the radiation is detected by using an illuminometer 2, signals are put out to a control system of a microwave oscillator when the quantity exceeds the quantity of light beforehand set, a transmitter is stopped, and a denitration process is finished.
