Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture the titled rod under high yield of a dopant and glass soot by a method wherein Si hydride gas containing the dopant as necessary and acidifying gas are blown off and reacted and the glass soot is accumulated on a target. CONSTITUTION:In a concentrical multiple tube nozzle 4, Si hydride gas, such as, SiH4, SiHCl3, etc. is fed in from the arrow head 1 and an inert gas from the arrow head 2 and acidifying gas as O2 from the arrow head 3. The Si hydride gas and the acidifying gas are reacted in gaseous phase shapes by heating these gases at comparatively low temperatures by means of a heating source 5, and glass soot 10 is accumulated on a target 7 in a protecting tube 6. When letting a dopant for controlling a refractive index flow, a not less than quadruplex multiple tube nozzle is used. The target 7 is moved in the arrow head 8 direction while being revolving in the arrow head 9 direction, and minute soot 10 is uniformly accumulated. Since the temperature of the soot is comparatively low, the dopant hardly evaporates, and is contained in the soot 10.
