Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the quality of picture on a recorder by obtaining the area to be projected by a light incident to a flying route to be used in determining the diameter of one flying ink particle.
CONSTITUTION: An ink particle 1 injected from a head 10 is charged by a charging electrode 11 and deflected by a deflecting electrode 13 through a detecting electrode 12 to be thus projected on a recording paper 14. A light source 16 and a detecting means 15 are inserted between the electrode 12 and a deflecting electrode 13. When the light illuminates the particle 1, the shade of the particle 1 is projected on the detecting means 15. At this time the magnitude of the diameter of the particle is converted to a current value by plane sensors 17W20 of the detecting means 15 to thereby measure the diameter of the particle. It is noted that two-dimensional array CCD may also be used for the detecting means 15.
