Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a testing method of high reliability adapted to the actual condition by applying flame to necessary parts of the conductor of a wire or cable while changing therebetween at a constant voltage thereby to estimate the spark resistance thereof.
CONSTITUTION: While charging a voltage 1/10W2 times of the rated voltage between the conductors of a wire or cable having two or cores, flame is applied to necessary portions of the wire or cable 1 at a constant period of time or intermittently thereby to estimate the speak resistance. At the testing device, for instance, an FR-1 combustion testing device of UL Standards is used. For instance, a test piece 1 of cord at a length of 450mm is fitted to a stand 2, and a portion 76.2mm above from the lower end of the sample is selected to be flame contacting portion, a burner 5 being provided by inclining at 20° so that the tip of reducing flame 6 abuts against the flame contacting portion. The test is carried out by charging the conductor 10 of the test piece 1 via a slidac 8, a breaker 9, a voltmeter 11, and an ammeter 12 from an AC source 7.
