Abstract
PURPOSE: To realize high photosensitivity with a small amount of selenium, by forming a colloidal selenium particle layer between a conductive supporting body and a charge carrier transporting layer, by using a solution or dispersed solution of inorganic selenium compound and reducing agent.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic compound of selenium, such as SeO2, as a charge carrier generating layer of electrophotographic material, and a reducing agent capable of reducing this, such as salicyloyl hydrazide, are dissolved in a solvent, such as N,N-dimethyl formamide, and the solution precipitating coloidal Se is spread on a conductive supporting body, and dried to form a fine granular Se layer. Then, using, for example, a solution of 4,4'-benzylidene-bis(N,N-diethyl-m-toluidine) and polycarbonate, a charge carrier transporting layer is formed on the Se layer. Thus, as compared with the Se vapor deposition method, a similar photosensitivity may be obtained with Se amount of about several times smaller, and the fatigue of the photosensitive material is less, so that a clear image with less photographic fog may be obtained.
