Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform handling of the specimen in more easy way in order to carry out reaction thereof under atmosphere pressure and lessening the contamination of the device for ionization detection by employing specimen of excitation specie generated from carrier gas exclusively and ionizing the specimen.
CONSTITUTION: carier gas, i.e. Ar of approx. one atmosphere, is introduced into the chamber 1 thru inlet 1a. A high voltage of positive polarity against the grounded electrode 1c is applied on the needle-shaped electrode 1b, causing corona discharge at the tip of electrode 1b, Ar being ionized, collision of Ar+ electron and Ar is repeated and Ar specimen of excitation specie is created. Within the chamber 2, an appropriate electric potential is applied between the electrode 2a and 3a which prevents the charged particles from entering the chamber 3. Into the chamber 3 which is filled with excitaion specie only, specimen is introduced thru passage 3c and is ionized instantly. This ion is introduced into the detection measurement portion 5 thru intermediate chamber 4 by the actions of electrodes 3a. 3b. 4b.4a which are maintained at an appropriate potential. Ar is discharged from passages 3c and 4C.
