Abstract
PURPOSE:To form the film of superior corrosion resistance without hygroscopicity, peeling etc. by coating the aqueous solution composed of the specific ratios of chromic acid, chromic acid reduction product and the specific grain sizes of silica powder to a galvanized steel plate. CONSTITUTION:The aqueous solution which is composed primarily of chromic acid, chromic acid reduction product and silica powder of 30-70mmu in mean particle size and in which the ratios of these contents are such that the ratio of the chromic acid reduction product to the chromic acid is 1:0.6-1 respectively in CrO3 equivalent weight ratio and the ratio of the silica powder (SiO2 equivalent) to the total amount of the abovementioned both materials (CrO3 equivalent) is 1:0.2-20 is coated on the steel plate or the like having been coated with zinc or zinc alloy, after which the steel plate is dried without rinsing. The addition of the chromic acid reduction product increases Cr<+3> ions, increases the degree of polymerization of chromium chromate and makes the chromate film difficult to dissolve and the increase in the particle size of SiO2 improves corrosion resistance.
