Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the high carbon steel plate of superior workability, strength and toughness by annealing the steel plate in the form of the tight coil having been held deposited with surface scale after hot rolling to decarbonize only the surface layer part then further heat treating the same to make the central part into bainite structure. CONSTITUTION:The hot rolled hoop obtainable by hot rolling a slab containing C; 0.4% or more by an ordinary method is annealed in the form of being held deposited with scale at the temperature range of 650 deg.C to A1 point in a non-decarbonizing atmosphere. As a result of this, the various iron oxides in the hot rolled scale of the surface and the C in the surface layer part are reacted and are removed as CO, etc. It is desirable that the thickness of the decarbonization layer from the surface layer part of this time be made 10mu or more. Next, the hoop having been decarbonized of the surface layer part is heat treated to make its central part into bainite structure. This bainite treatment is accomplished by heating the hoop at a temperature higher than the Ac3 point, preferably around 830-870 deg.C, for several minutes to hold the same in austenite region, thence holding the hoop at an equal temperature within the range of about 350-400 deg.C to allow isothermal transformation to complete thence preferably water-cooling the hoop.
