Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a low-cost acetoacetylated polyvinyl alcohol resin by a method wherein liquid diketene is added to and reacted with a polyvinyl alcohol resin powder and unreacted diketene is easily removed.
CONSTITUTION: To polyvinyl alcohol resin powder with particle size of 50W450 mesh which contains 0.1W1.0wt% of a catalyst such as sodium acetate or primary amines and, if necessary, a non-solvent such as acetone or hexane is adsorbed and occluded and, thereafter liquid diketene is added by spraying under an inert gas atmosphere and reacted at 20W120°C while stirring of fluidizing operation is carried out for a predetermined period.
