Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-concentration and low-viscosity aqueous cationic polymer solution useful for an electrostatic recording paper or the like by a method wherein (co)polymerization reaction of a specific polymerizable monomer is initiated in a low-concentration condition and an aqueous monomer solution is successively added into a reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: In case of preparing cationic polymer by (co)polymerizing (A) a polymerizable monomer shown by the formula (wherein R1 is H, CH3; R2 and R3 are CH3, C2H5, CH2COOCH3; X is Cl, Br, CH3SO4, C2H5SO4) and (B) other polymerizable vinyl monomer in an aqueous medium, part of a total feed of (A), or part of (A) and a total feed of (B) or part of (B) is used to initiate (co)polymerization reaction and thereafter the remaining amount of (A) or (B) is successively added to carry out polymerization reaction. Thereby, because an initial polymerization degree and a heat generation are controlled and subsequently the concentration is increased, an economically profitable high-concentration and easily workably low-viscosity cationic polymer is prepared.
