Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the semi-continuous production without an opened system by a mechanism wherein, in obtaining a condensate polymer by a high-viscosity bulk polycondensation reaction, a process from a monomer reaction to a high polymer formation is divided into three stages and these stages are rationally combined.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer easily subjected to condensation reaction is synthesized in a first stage reaction tank and generated by-products and/or solvent are removed Moreover, oligomer is optionally formed from this monomer. Still more, the viscosity of a reaction product in a first stage reaction tank must be below 5000 poises. Subsequently, this reaction product is transferred to a second stage reaction tank and a solid multidispersed prepolymer is formed by applying shearing force at a temperature below a fusing point of a prepolymer with desired MW. This prepolymer is pelletized by an extruder and, in a third reaction tank, obtained pellets are polymerized to produce a bulk polycondensate. As a monomer to be used herein, a difunctional monmer alone or a combination thereof can be used.
