Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce mutual fusion of chips and deposition to an inner wall of a dryer in drying by a method wherein, in feeding polyester copolymer chips into a dryer, drying is carried out while crystallization temperature after feeding and dry- ing temperature after crystallization are maintained at a predetermined temperature.
CONSTITUTION: In drying polyester copolymer chips by heating, the temperature within a dryer when feeding the chips is maintained within a range from above glass transition point Tg(°C) of the chips to below Tg+15(°C), and the temperature within a dryer after chip feeding is raised to a temperature range from above crystallization initiating point Tc(°C) of the chips to below Tc+5(°C) to crystallize the chips. Thereafter drying is carried out at a drying temperature above Tc+15(°C). The crystallization temperature must be above a crystallization initiating point and it is effective to keep the temperature as low as possible. If the crystallization point is high, the fusion of chips is generated because plasticization predominates and predrying effect by crystallization is reduced.
