Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a title adhesive soluble or dispersible in water which can be used for adhesion of paper products without causing any harmful effects on recovery of waste paper, by preparing the adhesive from partial saponification product of polyvinyl acetate copolymer formed from vinyl acetate and saturated branched aliphatic acid vinyl ester.
CONSTITUTION: The object water-soluble or-dispersible hot melt adhesive consists of partial saponification product of polyvinyl acetate copolymer with intrinsic viscosity (measured in acetone solvent at 30°C in concentration unit g/100m3) of 0.09W 0.27, obtained by copolymerization of (A) vinyl acetate and (B) 0.5W10wt% of saturated branched aliphatic acid vinyl ester of CH2=CHOCOCR1R2R3 (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are alkyl).
EFFECT: For waste paper recovery process, this adhesive, being soluble or dispersible in water, does not block screen mesh or cause mottles on the surface of products from the wastepaper.
