Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover CaCl2 from salt water mud discharged by purifying raw material salt and to remove sulfate ion in the salt by dissolving the mud in hydrochloric acid; separating MgCl2 in the soln. as Bydroxide by filtration; and adding the filltrate to an aq. soln. of the raw material salt.
CONSTITUTION: Salt water mud is dissolved in hydrochloric acid to convert CaCO3 in the mud into CaCl2 and Mg(OH)2 into MgCl2. After separating the dissolution residue by filtration, Ca(OH)2 or the like is added to the filtrate to precipitate the MgCl2 as Mg(OH)2, which is then separated by filtration. The resulting CaCl2- contg. filtrate is added to an aq. soln. of raw material alkali chloride to remove sulfate ion. Thus, the amt. of the salt water mud is considerably reduced, so the mud treating expenses are remarkably saved.
