Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain sufficient fixing effect using a small size unit, by providing in combination a heat plate type heat source having a practically uniform heat flow distribution in the paper feed direction, and a heat source having a heat flow distribution gradually decreasing from a paper inlet to a paper outlet.
CONSTITUTION: A fixing unit consists of heat plate 1, heat source 2 such as sheathed heater, temperature detector 3, such as thermistor, and heat source controller 4. A sheathed heater constant in every part in heat emission quantity per unit length is selected for use in source 2, and arranged so as to enlarge intervals exponentially from the paper inlet to the outlet. A plurality of heaters are arranged in rows vertically to the paper feed direction, and their capacities may be gradually decreased exponentially from the inlet. Detector 3 is installed in the paper inlet side of plate 1 to prevent the temperature of plate 1 from exceeding the prodetermined value even when fixing is not operated, thus permitting fixing temperature to be always kept constant in a small size unit, and sufficient fixing effect to be obtained.
