Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a high polymer having improved tint, by polymerizing raw material oil having a polymerizable component in the presence of a complex compound, which is separated by allowing the solution to stand.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material oil consisting mainly of 4W11C fraction produced in petroleum refining, or one containing gas oil prepared in coal carbonization industry or a polymerizable component which is a fraction at 130W200°C obtained in coal tar distillation, is mixed with a complex compound having catalytic action comprising A) a catalyst consisting of a compound of IV group and IV group elements and B) a liquid component consisting of a polyhydric alcohol which is incompatible with the catalyst and the raw material oil to give a uniform suspension, which is polymerized at -10W200°C and allowed to stand so that the complex compound is separated from the solution through density.
