Abstract
PURPOSE: An alkanolamine aqueous solution containing thermally stable salts that form when industrial gases are treated with an alkanolamine aqueous solution is treated with an ion exchange resin to decompose the salts, thus regenerating alkanolamine.
CONSTITUTION: The impurities in an industrial gas as synthetic gas from the partial oxidation of heavy oil or coal or petroleum refining gas is absorbed in an alkanolamine aqueous solution, which is heat treated for regeneration wherein heat-stable salts remain without decomposition, such as compounds from alkanolamine and carbon disulfide or cyan. The alkanolamine solution containing the heat stable salts is brought into contact with a strongly basic ion exchange resin, such as Dia-ion SA10A made by Mitsubishi Kasei Kogyo K K, at a space velocity of 0.05W 20 1/hr. The exchange resin that has reached the adsorption equilibrium is readily activated with an alkali solution and reused.
