Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare a lyotropic cholesteric liquid crystal by dissolving a polysaccharide derivative obtained by substituting at least a part of OH groups of a linear polysaccharide with a specific group, to a specific concentration. CONSTITUTION:A solution obtained by dissolving (A) a polysaccaride derivative prepared by substituting at least a part of OH groups of a linear polysaccharide having an average polymerization degree of 10-1000, e.g. cellulose, amylose, etc. with a group of the formula I [R1 is H, methyl, ethyl; R2 is vinyl allyl, phenyl, II,III; A1 is lower (hydroxy)alkyl, halogenated lower alkyl, (lower alkyl-substituted) phenyl, lower acyl, vinyl, allyl, methacryloyl; A2 is H, lower (hydroxy) alkyl, halogenated lower alkyl, (lower alkyl-substituted) phenyl; n is >=1] in (B) one or more solvents selected from water, lower aliphatic alcohol, lower aliphatic ketones, etc., to a concentration of >=50 wt%.
