Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce switching time by providing an etalon interference system, changing the spacing of the two reflecting surfaces of this system and selectively introducing the light emitted from one optical fiber into plural optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 for inputting, optical fibers 2, 3 for outputting, a lens 10 for collimating exit light and lenses 20, 30 for condensing incoming light are provided and the switch is constituted by these as well as a crystal plate 41 composed of ferrodielectric strong elastic crystal and electrodes 42, 43 at the top and bottom thereof and a power source 44. Reflecting surfaces 50, 60 are provided to the respective one sides of the transparent dielectric substrates 5, 6 and are placed on a support table 7. Now if an incident angle is selected, the light from the fiber 1 is introduced into the fiber 2 but when voltage above a certain value is applied from the power source 44, the distance between the reflecting surfaces 50, 60 slightly changes, due to which the light from the fiber 1 enters the fiber 3. In this way, switching is done by an extremely small displacement amount and therefore switch time becomes short.
