Abstract

PURPOSE: To regenerate at a high degree of efficiency CaO having high activity from CaSO4 at a relatively low temperature by treating a by-product CaSO4 with a reducing agent containing CO and O2, said CaSO4 being produced by desulfurizing treatment using a desulfurizing agent containing CaO.
CONSTITUTION: In the reduction of a by-product CaSO4 with CO to CaO, the reduction is carried out at a relatively low temp. of from 800W900°C in the presence of O2. CaO and CaS are produced by this reduction. As O2 is present, CaS is oxidized to CaSO4 which is then reacted with CO to produce CaO. The reduction of CaSO4 to regenerate CaO and the oxidation of CaS are carried out in succession. Thus, the regenerating rate of CaO is improved.
